Additional information

For GLDA-Na4 a series of screening tests on biodegradation is reported, showing that GLDA is readily biodegradable under aerobic conditions. GLDA-Na4 is also anaerobically biodegradable as shown by an anaerobic screening test OECD TG311.

A simulation test on the biodegradation of GLDA-H4 in an activated sludge plant treating domestic waste water showed >95% removal by biodegradation after a period of 14 days.

A biodegradability test in seawater (OECD 306) was performed with GLDA-Na4 showing 83% biodegradation at day 60. Therefore GLDA should be classified as inherently biodegradable in seawater.

Based on the ready biodegradability of GLDA, further simulation tests in surface water, sediment and soil are not required in accordance with column 2 of REACH Annex IX.
