Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

IN VITRO

In a reverse gene mutation assay in bacteria (BASF 1992), strains TA1535, TA1537, TA98 and TA100 of S. typhimurium were exposed to Cyanoacetic acid (purity 98.6%) in water at concentrations of 4 – 5000 µg/plate in the presence and absence of mammalian metabolic activation (Standard Plate Test and Preincubation Test.

Cyanoacetic acid was tested up to cytotoxic concentrations (bacteriotoxicity at concentrations of >= 1000 µg/plate) and limit concentration (i.e. 5000 µg/plate). The positive controls induced the appropriate responses in the corresponding strains. There was no evidence of induced mutant colonies over background.

This study is classified as acceptable. This study satisfies the requirement for Test Guideline OPPTS 870.51001; OECD 471 for in vitro mutagenicity (bacterial reverse gene mutation) data.

IN VIVO

No data are available.

Short description of key information:
IN VITRO
There was no evidence of reverse gene mutation in bacteria.

IN VIVO
No data are available.

Endpoint Conclusion: No adverse effect observed (negative)

Justification for classification or non-classification

There is no need to classify Cyanoacetic acid for mutagenicity according to the Directive 67/548/EC or GHS criteria.
