Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Description of key information

LC50 (14-day): >1000 mg/kg dry weight, mortality, Eisenia fetida, reliability 1 (RCC, 2004)

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Additional information

Testing for toxicity to terrestrial organisms is not considered necessary because:

- The substance hydrolyses moderately rapidly and its hydrolysis product has a log Kow <3, therefore, partitioning to the terrestrial compartment is expected to be minimal.

- PNECsoil has been calculated for the silanol hydrolysis product from PNECaqua(freshwater) on the basis of the equilibrium partitioning method and the risk characterisation ratios (RCRs) based on PNECsoil are <1.

Measured data was not available for N-[3-(dimethoxymethylsilyl)-2-methylpropyl]ethylenediamine (CAS 023410-40-4), but supporting information from the comparable substance, N-(3-(trimethoxysilyl)propyl)ethylenediamine (CAS 1760-24-3) was deemed acceptable as additional information.

A 14-day LC50 of >1000 mg/kg dry weight and NOEC of ≥1000 mg/kg dry weight have been determined for the effects of the test substance on mortality of Eisenia foetida. A NOEC of ≥1000 mg/kg dry weight has also been determined for effects on growth. It is likely that under the moist test conditions employed in the test that the test organisms were exposed to the hydrolysis products of the substance.

The long-term toxicity study with macro-organisms does not need to be conducted because the PNECsoil has been calculated for the silanol hydrolysis product from PNECaqua(freshwater) on the basis of the equilibrium partitioning method and the risk characterisation ratios (RCRs) based on PNECsoil are <1.
