First-aid measures

Emergency measure - Inhalation: Remove from source of exposure.  Keep warm and at rest.  If

the casualty is not breathing give artificial respiration.

If breathing is difficult give oxygen.  Provide

symptomatic/supportive care as necessary.  If irritation

occurs seek medical attention.

Emergency measure - Eyes: Immediately flush eyes with plenty of water for at least 15

minutes, lifting eyelids occasionally to irrigate.  Provide

symptomatic/supportive care as necessary.  Seek medical

attention if signs of irritation persist.

Emergency measure - Skin: Remove contaminated clothing.  Immediately wash affected

area with soap and water, then flush skin with water.

Launder contaminated clothing before reuse.  Provide

symptomatic/supportive care as necessary.  If signs of

irritation occur seek medical attention.

Emergency measure - Ingestion: Do not induce  vomiting.  Rinse mouth out with plenty of

water.  Dilute stomach contents by drinking plenty of water.

Provide sympomatic/supportive care as necessary.  Seek

immediate medical attention.

Fire-fighting measures

Recommended extinguishing agent: Use appropriate media for underlying cause of fire.  Water

spray, dry powder, foam or carbon dioxide are the

recommended extinguishing agents.

Product arising from burning: Carbon dioxide, carbon monoxide and water.

Product determined by test: N

Protective equipment: Fire fighters should wear full protective clothing and

breathing apparatus.

Accidental release measures

Emergency measures in case of spillage: Avoid creation of dust.  Prevent spillage from entering

water supplies.  Sweep up spilled material.  Place material

in suitable containers for incineration.  Ventilate area and

wash spill site.  Avoid contact with skin, eyes and

clothing.  Appropriate personal protective equipment should

be worn.  If ventilation is inadequate or significant

exposure is likely a respirator should be worn.

Handling and storage

Handling: Avoid skin contact.  Avoid inhalation of dust or vapour.

Wear suitable personal protective equipment including acid

suit, gloves and boots.  Where ventilation is inadequate or

significant exposure is likely a respirator should be worn.

Storage: Store in a cool, dry area.  Store upright in sealed,

appropriately labelled containers.

Packaging of the substance and or preparation: The substance is packed in a double polyethene bag in 20-30

kg fibre drums.

Disposal considerations

Industry - Possibility of recovery/recycling: Sample purity is of prime concern, therefore spilled

material should not be reused/recycled.  Collect spilled

material and place in suitable container for incineration.

Industry - Possibility of neutralisation: It is not possible to neutralise the test substance.

Industry - Possibility of destruction - incineration: Incineration is the preferred method of disposal.

Public at large - Possibility of recovery/recycling: Not applicable, PD138153 does not enter the public domain.
