Guidance on Safe Use
Administrative data
First-aid measures
Emergency measure - Inhalation: - Bring affected person into fresh air. If necessary give
artifical respiration.
By strong breathing aches avoid any physical activity,
necessary transport to the doctor in the ambulance.
Seek medical advice.
Emergency measure - Eyes: - Rinse by good opened eyelid at least for 15 minutes with
plenty of water.
Seek medical advice.
Emergency measure - Skin: - Remove affected or smelling clothing immediately.
Wash affected skin thoroughly with water.
Seek medical advice.
Emergency measure - Ingestion: - Drink plenty of water.
Do not neutralise with bicarbonate, soda or limestone,
because the built carbon dioxide may cause a stomach per-
foration.
Seek medical advice.
Fire-fighting measures
Recommended extinguishing agent: - Dry powder, carbon dioxide.
Larger fires combat with light water, cool environment
with water spray.
Product arising from burning: - carbon monoxide, hydrogen chloride and phosgene .
Product determined by test: N
Protective equipment: - Independent respiratory equipment and complete protective
suit.
Accidental release measures
Emergency measures in case of spillage: - Wear protective clothing (Gas mask with filter B2,
gloves, gastight goggles and acid proof protective suit.)
Dam up leaked liquid and pump it in a suitable container.
Blanket rests with suitable absorbents (limestone, soda,
bicarbonate) and dispose it under acting upon local,
official rules.
Knock down vapours with water spray and clean contaminated
objects with diluted sodium lye.
Handling and storage
Handling: - Carry out racking procedures only at stations with venti-
lation or gas back streaming system. Use closed and gas-
tight system and avoid entry of moisture.
Open handling only with protective gloves, gas masks
with gas filter B2, gastight goggles and acid proof pro-
tective suit.
Storage: - The substance should be stored in closed, gastight tanks
or containers. Avoid entry of moisture.
Packaging of the substance and or preparation: - 220 l steel-barrels with polyethylen receptacle.

Stability and reactivity
Danger other than fire: - Cool tanks and containers with water spray. Avoid entry of
water into the tank, danger of explosion.
Chemical reaction with water: - (S)-(-)-2-Acetoxypropinyl chloride hydrolyses in water to
(S)-(-)-2- Acetoxypropionic acid and hydrogen chloride.
In contact with water explosion may occur.
Dust explosion: - Not to be expected.
Dust explosion determined by test: N
