Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Description of key information

3-h EC10 = 18 mg/L (95% CL = 7.9 to 41.8 mg/L; OECD 209; domestic activated sludge; BASF SE, 2012; report no. 08G0454/11G167)

Key value for chemical safety assessment

EC50 for microorganisms:
89 mg/L
EC10 or NOEC for microorganisms:
18 mg/L

Additional information

In a short-term respiration inhibition test according to OECD 209 using activated sludge from a wwtp treating predominantly domestic sewage, the toxic effect of bis(2 -ethylhexyl)amine was studied. The 3 -h EC10 was determined to be 18 mg/L, while the 3 -h EC50 was 89 mg/L (BASF SE, 2012, report no. 08G0454/11G167).

In a short-term respiration inhibition test using activated sludge from a wwtp treating industrial wastewater, the EC20 was greater than 100 mg/L (BASF AG, 1983).

Additionally, in an oxygen consumption test using Pseudomonas putida (ROBRA test, Tween 80 was used as a solvent) an EC10 of 1307 mg/L was determined (BASF AG, 1989; report no. 10/1890500).

It can be concluded, that the inhibition of the degradation activity of activated sludge is not anticipated after adaptation.
