First-aid measures

Ingestion:       Give 2-4 cups full of milk or water, do not induce vomiting; seek medical advice if symptoms occur.

Skin contact:       Wash with plenty of soap and water. Remove contaminated clothing and shoes. Get medical attention. Wash clothing before reuse. Clean shoes before reuse.

Eye contact:       Immediately flush eyes with plenty of water, occasionally lifting the upper and lower eyelids. Check for and remove any contact lenses. Continue to rinse for at least 10 minutes. Get medical attention.

Inhalation:       Move the exposed person to fresh air at once. Seek medical advice if symptoms occur.

First Aider Protection:       None specifically

Fire-fighting measures

Small Fire:       Water mist, foam, dry powder, CO2

Large Fire:       Water mist, foam, dry powder, CO2

Avoid:       Do never use straight streams of water

Specific Hazards:       Substance may polymerise

Protective equipment and advice for fire fighters:       Self-contained breathing apparatus and full protective clothing. Clothing for fire-fighters (including helmets, protective boots and gloves) conforming to European standard EN 469 will provide a basic level of protection for chemical incidents.

Accidental release measures

Personal precautions, protective equipment and emergency measures

For non-emergency personnel:       No action shall be taken involving any personal risk or without suitable training. Keep unnecessary and unprotected personnel from entering. Do not touch or walk through spilled material. Put on appropriate personal protective equipment.

For emergency responders:       If specialised clothing is required to deal with the spillage, take note of any information on suitable and unsuitable materials. See also the information in "For non-emergency personnel".

Environmental precautions:       Avoid dispersal of spilled material and runoff and contact with soil, waterways, drains and sewers.

Methods and material for containment and cleaning up

For containment:       Small spill : Move containers from spill area. Absorb spill with inert material, then place with shovel in a designated, labeled waste container. Dispose of via a licensed waste disposal contractor.

Large spill : Move containers from spill area. Prevent entry into sewers, water courses, basements or confined areas. Absorb spill with inert material, then place with shovel in a designated, labeled waste container. Dispose of via a licensed waste disposal contractor.

Other information:       Remove all sources of ignition. Use a spark-proof tool. Provide ventilation.

Handling and storage

Precautions for Safe Handling:       Protective measures:

Put on appropriate personal protective equipment. Do not handle until all safety precautions have been read and understood. Do not get in eyes or on skin. Do not ingest or inhale. Avoid release to the environment. Keep in the original container or an approved alternative made from a compatible material, kept tightly closed when not in use. Empty containers retain product residue. Do not reuse container.

Advice on general occupational hygiene: Eating, drinking and smoking should be prohibited in areas where this material is handled, stored and processed. Workers should wash hands and face before eating, drinking and smoking. Remove contaminated clothing and protective equipment before entering eating areas.

Conditions for safe storage, including any incompatibilities:       Store in accordance with local regulations. Store in original container protected from direct sunlight in a dry, cool and well-ventilated area, away from incompatible materials (see Section 10) and food and drink. Keep container tightly closed and sealed until ready for use. Containers that have been opened must be carefully resealed and kept upright to prevent leakage. Do not store in unlabeled containers. Use appropriate containment to avoid environmental contamination.

Specific end uses:       Manufacture of plastic products

Exposure controls

Avoid contact with skin and eyes. Do not swallow. Do not inhale. Wear suitable protective equipment. Ensure that eyewash stations and safety showers are close to the workstation location. Remove soiled or soaked clothing. Clean skin after work. At work do not eat, drink, smoke or take drugs. Keep away from food, drink and animal feeding stuffs.

Engineering controls:       Generic local exhaust ventilation (LEV) in the production area is always required to control inhalation exposure.

Personal protective equipment:       Respiratory protection

Good general exhaust ventilation of the work area.

In case of exposure to high concentrations: wear positive pressure self-contained breathing apparatus classified under EN 137:2006 and give operators specific training. Cartridges must be discarded after each working day.

Hand protection

Wear appropriate protective gloves to prevent skin exposure. Use chemically resistant gloves classified under EN 374, class 6 (breakthrough time > 480 minutes), specified for diethylene glycol dimethacrylate. Give operators specific training. An advanced occupational health and safety management system must be in use. Discard gloves after one working day or when they have come into direct contact with the mixture.

Eye and Face protection

Use safety goggles (EN 166)

Skin and body protection

Use clothing and boots as usual in the chemical industry.

Environmental exposure controls:       Take precautionary measures against discharges into the environment

Stability and reactivity

Reactivity:       Product is stable under normal storage and usage conditions

Chemical stability:       The product may polymerise under the influence of light, heat or in contact with polymerisation initiators such as peroxides

Possibility of hazardous reactions:       May polymerise and is stabilised with MEHQ

Conditions to Avoid:       Elevated temperatures and light

Incompatible materials:       Strong oxidising and reducing agents; peroxides

Hazardous decomposition products:       Carbon oxides (CO; CO2), dense black smoke

Disposal considerations

Waste treatment methods:       GENERAL

Must not be disposed of together with household garbage. Treat as chemical waste. Do not allow product to reach sewer system. Contact manufacturer for recycling information.
