Experimental studies investigating the short-term toxicity of N-(2-(4-amino-N-ethyl-m-toluidino)ethyl)methanesulphonamide sesquisulphate (CAS 25646-71 -3) to aquatic organisms are available for three different trophic levels (fish, algae and daphnia). One study was performed under GLP conditions and according to standard OECD guidelines.

The algae EC50 value based on yield is reported as a range from 0.4 to 4.0 mg/L. For the PNEC derivation the lower value of 0.4 mg/L was used as a worst-case assumption. The EC50 value for Daphnia was determined to be at 3.2 mg/L. The acute effect concentration for fish was in the same range with an LC50 (96h) of 6.4 mg/L.

Furthermore the toxicity to activated sludge microorganism was tested according to OECD 209 based on the total respiration inhibition of the activated sludge. In this test an EC10 (3h) was determined of 7.7 mg/L. Therefore, it can not be fully excluded that the substance can inhibit the degradation process in sewage treatment plants.
