Executive summary:

The determination was carried out for 'Paraffin waxes (Fischer-Tropsch), full range, C15-50 - branched and linear' using the HPLC screening method, Method C19 of Commission Directive 2001/59/EC (which constitutes Annex V of Council Directive 67/548/EEC).

The adsorption coefficient (Koc) of the test material has been determined to be >4.27 x 105, log10 Koc >5.63.

Description of key information

adsorption coefficient (Koc) of the test material: >4.27E5, log10 Koc >5.63

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Koc at 20 °C:
5.63

Additional information

The determination was carried out using the HPLC screening method, Method C19 of Commission Directive 200l/59/EC (which constitutes Annex V of Council Directive 67/548/EEC).

The adsorption coefficient (Koc) of the test material has been determined to be >4.27 x 105, log10 Koc >5.63

The test material was known to primarily be a complex mixture of alkanes. As the test material eluted after the mobile phase had been adjusted to 100% solvent, all components were deemed to be greater than that of the highest calibration standard.

EUSES 2.1.2 includes QSAR equations for the prediction of the adsorption coefficient Koc from Kow. The appropriate equation is for the ‘hydrophobics’ group, which is:

log Koc = 0.10 + 0.81log Kow

Koc for each block is calculated from the weighted average Kow for the block, given in Table 1.xxx of the Chemical Safety Report and in the overall Physical and chemical properties endpoint summary in IUCLID.
