Description of key information
No experimental data on potassium-S-lactate are available. In aqueous environments potassium-S-lactate fully dissociates into K+ ions and lactic acid. Therefore, transport and distribution behaviour of lactate in the environment can be understood in terms of the transport and distribution behaviour of potassium chloride and lactic acid.
In accordance with regulation (EC) No 1907/2006 (REACH) annex VIII, column 2, a hydrolysis study is not required if the substance is ready biodegradable. Lactic acid is readily biodegradable, which is also applicable to its potassium salt.
