Materials and methods

Test guideline
Qualifier:
no guideline required
Principles of method if other than guideline:
The test item is a mixture of constituents and transition from liquid to solid will not be sharp. The Guidance on information requirements and chemical safety assessment Chapter R.7a: Endpoint specific guidance from ECHA (2016) mentioned that "Melting points are not normally carried out for mixtures". In addition, according to column 2, point 7.2 of Annex VII of REACH regulation, "the study does not need to be conducted below a lower limit of -20°C".
GLP compliance:
no
Type of method:
other: visual observation after equilibrium at -20 °C.

RESULTS:

Temperature

+20 °C

-20 °C for 48 h

State of sample 1

Clear mobile liquid

 Clear mobile liquid

After a storage time in a freezer at -20 deg C for about 48hr, the test substance was still a clear mobile liquid. Therefore, its melting point is less than -20 deg C and no other test is necessary as per REACH annex VII, column 2, point 7.2.

Applicant's summary and conclusion

Conclusions:
The sample remained liquid at -20 °C therefore the freezing point of the test substance was considered to be < -20 °C.
No further testing is required.
Executive summary:

The physical state of the test substance was observed after 48hr equilibration at -20 °C, according to a method recommended by EFFA/EFEO for NCSs. The sample remained liquid at -20 °C therefore the freezing point of the test substance is < -20 °C (< 253.15 K). No further testing is required.
