Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Endpoint:
flammable solids
Type of information:
experimental study
Adequacy of study:
key study
Study period:
6 Apr 2016
Reliability:
1 (reliable without restriction)
Rationale for reliability incl. deficiencies:
guideline study
Qualifier:
according to guideline
Guideline:
other: UN Method N.1
GLP compliance:
no
Test procedure:
burning rate test: preliminary screening test
Burning time:
0 s
Remarks on result:
other: Test item melts, liquid burns, flame propagates very slowly

In the preliminary screening test the substance ignites by a hot flame from a gas burner. The test item melts and the liquid burns. The flame propagates very slowly along the test train (1 cm in 2 minutes).

Interpretation of results:
not classified based on GHS criteria
Endpoint:
substances / mixtures which in contact with water emit flammable gases
Data waiving:
study scientifically not necessary / other information available
Justification for data waiving:
the study does not need to be conducted because the experience in production or handling shows that the substance does not react with water, e.g. the substance is manufactured with water or washed with water
Endpoint:
pyrophoric solids
Data waiving:
study scientifically not necessary / other information available
Justification for data waiving:
the study does not need to be conducted because the substance is known to be stable in contact with air at room temperature for prolonged periods of time (days) and hence, the classification procedure does not need to be applied
Endpoint:
self-heating substances / mixtures
Data waiving:
study scientifically not necessary / other information available
Justification for data waiving:
the study does not need to be conducted because the substance is completely molten at 160°C

Description of key information

non flammable on ignition
no pyrophoricity
no flammability on contact with water

not self-heating

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Flammability:
not classified

Additional information

The substance is non-flammable as determined in the test according to UN Method N.1.

Based on experience in handling and use and the chemical structure, pyrophoricity and flammability on contact with water are not to be expected.

The substance is not self-heating being a solid with a melting point < 160 °C..

Justification for classification or non-classification

According to Regulation (EC) No 1272/2008 on classification, labelling and packaging (CLP) of substances and mixtures, the substance is considered to be a non flammable solid.

Based on the chemical structure and experience in handling and use, pyrophoricity and flammability on contact with water are not expected.

Based on the melting point data, the substance is not self-heating.
