Before the test the appearance of L-histidine monohydrochloride monohydrate was white crystals. After the experiments the test item was melted, blackened and its volume increased.

Dehydration of the test item was observed at a temperature of 178 - 180 °C. Using a linear heating rate of 10 °C/min the melting point of L-histidine monohydrochloride monohydrate was determined to be in the range of 256 - 268 °C (529 - 541 K). Based on the thermograms and the appearance of test item after the tests it was concluded that it started to decompose after melting.

Conclusions:
The melting point of the test item was determined using DSC. The test item dehydrated at 178 °C. The melting point was in the range of 256 - 268 °C.
Executive summary:

A study was conducted according to OECD TG 102, Regulation (EC) No 440/2008 method A.1 and EPA OPPTS 830.7200 to determine the melting point/range of the test item using differential scanning calorimetry. The test item was weighed into an aluminium crucible under an inert atmosphere (nitrogen). Three tests with about 3 – 5 mg of the test item were performed. As reference crucible, an empty aluminium crucible was used. The substance is a white powder at ambient conditions. The crucible was heated from room temperature to 500 °C with 10 °C/min heating rate. The test item dehydrated at 178 °C. The melting range of the test item was determined to be 256 to 268 °C at atmospheric pressure (1013 hPa).

Description of key information
