Additional information

Three acute toxicity studies of reliability 1 for Pigments Yellow 12, 83 and 170 on Danio rerio and Oncorhynchus mykiss are available. As could be expected from a grouping approach, for all three pigments of the Diarylide Yellow group consistently no toxicity towards fish has been found in any of these OECD 203 studies with nominal concentrations well above the solubility limit (0.4 µg/L).

Three further studies on pigments Yellow 13 and 83 are considered unreliable as suspensions of the undissolved test material were used as test solutions. Two of these studies showed LC50-values of 49.1 mg/L (pigment Yellow 13, VKI) and 18 mg/L (pigment Yellow 83, Hamburger). Toxicity was caused by additives in the test formulation. Therefore the results are not relevant for the assessment of the category substances.
