Test procedure:
burning rate test: preliminary screening test
Remarks on result:
substance does not ignite and propagate combustion either by burning with flame or smouldering along 200 mm of the powder train within the 2 minutes test period

In contact with the flame of the gas burner the test item melted, emitted yellow sparks and turned into a yellow/brown residue. White smoke was observed. After removal of the ignition source, no propagation of combustion of the test item was observed.

Interpretation of results:
not classified based on GHS criteria
Conclusions:
The preliminary screening test was performed for the determination of the flammability of Lowinox® 22IB46.
No propagation of combustion of the test item along 200 mm length of the pile within 4 minutes was observed. According to the guidelines, performance of the burning rate test is not required. Based on the results obtained, the test item is considered ‘not highly flammable’.
Executive summary:

The purpose of the study was to determine the physico-chemical properties for Lowinox® 22IB46.

The preliminary screening test was performed for the determination of the flammability of the test item, in accordance with the following test guidelines:

European Community (EC), EC no. 440/2008, Part A: Methods for the Determination of Physico-Chemical Properties, Guideline A.10: “Flammability (Solids)”, Official Journal of the European Union no. L142, May 31, 2008.

United Nations (UN), UN no. ST/SG/AC.10/11/Rev.5: Recommendations on the Transport of Dangerous Goods, Part III: Classification Procedures, Test Methods and Criteria Relating to Class 2, Class 3, Class 4, Division 5.1, Class 8 and Class 9, Test N.1: “Test Method for Readily Combustible Solids”, 2009.

Description of key information

Key value for flammability was determined in a GLP accredited laboratory study using the preliminary screening test in accordance with EU Method A.10 and UN Test N.1.

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Flammability:
not classified

Additional information

Flammability

The preliminary screening test was performed for the determination of the flammability of Lowinox® 22IB46.

No propagation of combustion of the test item along 200 mm length of the pile within 4 minutes was observed. According to the guidelines, performance of the burning rate test is not required. Based on the results obtained, the test item is considered ‘not highly flammable’.

Justification for classification or non-classification

No propagation of combustion of the test item along 200 mm length of the pile within 4 minutes was observed. According to the guidelines, performance of the burning rate test is not required. Based on the results obtained, the test item is considered ‘not highly flammable’ and therefore does not fulfill the requirements for classification.
