Description of key information

Appearance:

On the basis of visual perceptual property, test chemical was observed to be an organic clear colourless liquid in appearance.

Freezing point:

The Freezing point determination of test chemical was performed using crushed ice and salt . The determination was done on the basis of cooling curve (time vs temperature) obtained when the test chemical was placed in the cooling bath. The freezing point was observed to be -8.15°C at 965.7 hPa.

Boiling point:

The boiling point determination of test chemical was done as per the test guideline OECD 103. The method followed was according to Siwoloboff. The mean boiling point of test chemical was observed to be 115.3°C at 964.8 hPa.

Density:

The density of test chemical was determined following OECD guideline 109 and according to the Indian standard method for determination of density of liquids [IS 4730:1994 (Reaffirmed 2010)]. The mean density of the test chemical was determined to be 0.9857 g/cm³ at 20°C and 965.4 hPa.

Particle size distribution:

The study does not need to be conducted because the test chemical is marketed or used in a non- solid or granular form.

Vapour pressure:

Vapour pressure of the test chemical was estimated to be 2.61E-10 Pa which is equivalent to 1.96E-12 mm Hg at 25 ° C.

Partition coefficient:

The partition Coefficient n-octanol/water of test chemical was determined by the Reverse Phase High Performance Liquid Chromatographic method according to OECD Guideline No. 117 for testing of Chemicals. A test solution was prepared by accurately measuring 4μL of test chemical and diluted with acetonitrile up to 10 ml. Thus, the test solution concentration was 392 mg/l. The pH of test substance was 8.0. The reference substances were chosen according to estimated Pow range of the test substance and generalized calibration graph was prepared. The reference substances were having Pow value ranging from 0.5 to 4.6. The Log Pow value was determined to be 1.5175 ± 0.0213 dimensionless at 25°C. On the basis of this value, test chemical can be considered to be hydrophilic in nature.

Water solubility:

The water solubility determination of test chemical was done as per the OECD guideline 105 and by spectrophotometric analytical method as per OECD 101. The solubility of test chemical in water was determined to be 504069.6 mg/L at 29°C, which indicates that the test chemical was highly soluble in water.

Surface tension:

Based on the data obtained from the peer reviewed journal, the surface tension of 10% concentration of test chemical was determined to be 31.8 mN/m at 25 ° C and at pH 11.9.

Flash point:

The flash point determination of  test chemical was performed by closed cup method using Abel's Flash Point Apparatus. The mean flash point of the test chemical was observed to be 42.3°C at 964.9 hPa. Thus test chemical consider to be in classification criteria of Category 3 (flammable liquids) based on GHS criteria.

Auto-flammability:

Test chemical  did not catch fire on being exposed to air at room temperature of 27°C pressure of 966 hPa. This indicates that test chemical  was not auto-flammable.

Flammability:

Flash point of test substance was determined to be 42.3°C at 964.9 hPa. On the basis of GHS classification crtieria, test chemical has flash point less than 60°C, hence the test chemical was considered to be classified in category 3 (flammable liquids) based on GHS criteria.

Explosiveness:

The study does not need to be conducted because there are no chemical groups present in the molecule which are associated with explosive properties.

Oxidising property:

The study does not need to be conducted because the organic substance contains oxygen or halogen atoms which are chemically bonded only to carbon or hydrogen and hence, the classification procedure does not need to be applied.

pH:

The pH determination of test chemical was done as per the test guideline OECD 122. The mean pH of the test solution was determined with the help of digital pH meter. The pH of 1% w/v solution of the test chemical was determined to be 11.25 at 29 °C, which indicates that the test chemical was basic in nature
