activated sludge respiration inhibition testing

study scientifically not necessary / other information available
Justification for data waiving:
the study does not need to be conducted because the substance is highly insoluble in water, hence indicating that aquatic toxicity is unlikely to occur

Description of key information

In accordance with column 2 of REACH Annex VIII, the activated sludge respiration inhibition test does not need to be conducted as there are mitigating factors indicating that microbial toxicity is unlikely to occur. With regard to a study according to OECD 29, for TiN a water solubility of 23.8 µg Ti/L (100 mg loading, pH 6, 7 days) was determined. In addition, under the conditions of OECD guidelines 201, 202 and 203, respectively, measured Ti concentrations were below 2 µg/L at test initiation and at test termination in all control and test exposures. Based on water solubility limitations, tests on toxicity against microorganisms are scientifically not justified.
