Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Substance characterisation

Cassia oil is a Natural Complex Substance (NCS) for which > 90% of the constituents is identified. In the typical Cassia Oil, the main constituent Cinnamic aldehyde - trans is present at 77% (range 60-95%).

The composition with mainly monoterpenoids represents a relatively homogenous type of NCS. Based on the constituent approach as described in the industry protocol for the REACH registration of NCSs of botanical origin used as fragrance ingredients (see footnote 1), Cassia oil is to be considered as a readily biodegradable substance.

The log Kow range for Cassia oil constituents runs from 1.51 - 2.89 and 77% of the NCS has a log Kow of 1.82. This implies that there is a low tendency to sorb to organic matter.

The water solubility ranges from 160 - 18815 mg/L at 20ºC. 77% of the NCS has a water solubility of 3373.9 mg/L.

The initial vapour pressure was estimated at 7.15 Pa at 25ºC. The vapour pressure of constituents ranges from 0.0476 to 255 Pa. The Vapour pressure is 4.49 Pa for 77% of the composition. This indicates that partitioning by volatilisation may play a role for only a small fraction of the constituents.
