Executive summary:

The acute oral toxicity of ammonium hydroxide (aqueous ammonia) was investigated in the rat. Groups of ten male Wistar rtas were gavaged with a single oral dose of the the substance dissolved in water at various dose levels and observed for 14 days. The LD50 was calculated to be 350 mg/kg bw using the probit method.
