Additional information

No data from guideline studies on acute or chronic effects on birds are available. According to reliable study results, acetone is considered to be rapidliy degraded in the environment compartments; the bioaccumulation potential is regarded to be insignificant and so secondary poisoning is not expected to be a relevant exposure route. Numerous reliable results available on the effect of acetone on different organisms in the environment indicate very low toxicity. Moreover, from the available mammalian toxicity data a selective toxicity to birds is not expected. Therefore, with respect to animal welfare the performance of a bird toxicity study is assumed to be not justified.
