Description of key information

The assessment of the chronic aquatic toxicity is based on the 7 d Ceriodaphnia study. No chronic test on fish is deemed necessary.

A chronic toxicity test on fish does not need to be conducted due to the facts that

- the substance is not classified according to 67/548/EEC

- the substance does not have a potential to bioaccumulate nor is it considered as a PBT/vPvB substance

- taking into consideration results from short-term toxicity tests on fish, Daphnia and algae there is a high probability that the most sensitive species (algae) has already been examined and that a further long-term result from fish would not be lower than the data already available.

Therefore, and for reasons of animal welfare, a chronic test on fish is not provided. 

Further, considering the results from a chronic 7d study on Ceriodaphnia resulting in a NOEC of 3.2 mg/L and the higher sensitivity of daphnids to the test substance in the acute test (EC50 of 7.9 mg/L compared to the acute fish test LC50 of 240 mg/L) it is not to be expected, that a chronic test on fish will reveal any additional information on the chronic aquatic toxicity of the test substance.
