Materials and methods

Test guideline
Qualifier:
equivalent or similar to guideline
Guideline:
other: EU test method L383 A/54-62 (EEC A.6)
Deviations:
no
Principles of method if other than guideline:
The flask method is used for determination of 1-octanol solubility. In this method, the substance dissolved in 1-octanol at a temperature somewhat above the test temperature. When saturation is achieved the mixture is cooled and kept at the test temperature, stirring as long as necessary to reach equilibrium. Subsequently, the mass concentration of the substance in the supernatant aqueous solution, which must not contain any undissolved particles, is determined by a suitable analytical method.
GLP compliance:
no

Any other information on results incl. tables

Preliminary test:

For this purpose, 0.1 g of the test material was melted and weighed in and 0.1, 0.5, 1.0, 2.0 and 10.0 g of 1-octanol were added to each weighted sample. The test material was completely solved giving clear solutions.

Applicant's summary and conclusion

Conclusions:
Under the study conditions, the test substance was miscible in 1-octanol in all proportions.
Executive summary:

A study was conducted to determine the 1-octanol solubility of the test substance, C12-18 and C18-unsatd. DEA, according to EU Method A.6. Under the study conditions, the test substance was miscible in 1-octanol in all proportions (Frishmann, 2010).
