Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Description of key information

A sediment toxicity study was conducted for 28 days with exposure of dibutyl terephthalate in spiked sediment to the chironomid, Chironomus
riparies. All endpoints were reported as equal to or greater than the highest nominal concentration of 1000 mg/kg dwt, or the geometric mean measured value of 694 mg/kg dwt.

Key value for chemical safety assessment

EC10, LC10 or NOEC for freshwater sediment:
694 mg/kg sediment dw

Additional information

A 28 -day spiked sediment toxicity test was conducted with dibutyl terephthalate exposed to the chironomid, Chironomus riparius. The study followed OECD 218 and good laboratory practices (GLPs). Chemical analysis of the tests ediment on Days 0 and 28 showed the measured test concentrations were below the nominal concentration and therefore it was considered appropriate to calculate the results based on the geometric mean measured test concentration in order to give a “worst case” analysis of the data. The geometric mean measured test concentration was calculated to be 694 mg/kg. The results of the test will also be reported based on the nominal test concentration given that the quantity of test item added to the test sediment was correct and analytical measurements may be below the nominal concentration if the test item absorbs to the test sediment.

The 28-Day EC50(reduction in emergence) based on nominal test concentrations was greater than 1000 mg/kg. The No Observed Effect Concentration was 1000 mg/kg. The EC50(development rate) based on nominal test concentrations was greater than
1000 mg/kg. The 28-Day EC50(reduction in emergence) based on geometric mean measured test concentrations was greater than 694 mg/kg. The No Observed Effect Concentration was 694 mg/kg. The EC50(development rate) based on nominal test concentrations was greater than 694 mg/kg.
