Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

PBT assessment: overall result

PBT status:
the substance is not PBT / vPvB
Justification:

Aromatic hydrocarbons, C10-13, reaction products with branched nonene, sulphonated, sodium salts do not meet the requirements for B / vB and based on criteria laid down in Annex XIII of REACH.

Persistence assessment

The persistence assessment is based on the screening criteria in Annex III of the REACH Regulation. The biodegradation potential of aromatic hydrocarbons, C10-13, reaction products with branched nonene, sulphonated, sodium salts has been assessed in an inherent test (SCAS test) in combination with Closed Bottle tests. The results reveal that methylnaphthalenesulphonate, and part of the isomers of dimethylnaphthalenesulphonate, degrade. The other constituents are not readily biodegradable. The substance is inherently biodegradable, not fulfilling specific criteria. It can therefore be concluded that based on the criteria mentioned above the substance is persistent in the environment. The substance is concluded to be P/vP.

Bioaccumulation assessment

The bioaccumulation assessment is based on the screening criteria in Annex III of the REACH Regulation. The octanol-water partitioning coefficient is determined as the ratio of the solubility in octanol and the solubility in water. Log Kow is determined to be -3.3. Because this value for log Kow is far below the criterium of log Kow < 4.5, no further assessment on bioaccumulation is needed. The substance is concluded to be not B/vB.

Toxicity assessment

The substance does not meet the criteria for being bioaccumulative or very bioaccumulative. In addition the lowest EC10 (for 21d-Daphina magna) is 6.9 mg/l and thus far above the T criterium of > 0.01 mg/l. Therefore no further assessment on toxicity is needed.

Likely routes of exposure:

As the substance is not considered as a PBT or vPvB substance, the likely routes of exposure are not further assessed.
