Additional information

The acute lethal toxicity of 2 -Butyloctan-1 -ol to rainbow trout (Oncorhynchus mykiss) was investigated under semi-static exposure conditions according to OCED Testguideline 203. The 96 hour LC50 and the NOEC were determined to be 0.48 mg/L and 0.32 mg/L, respectively. This result is in line with data available for the linear 1-dodecanol which had a LC50 of 1.01 mg/l in Pimephales Promelas.

Experimental data on three other respresentatives of the category (C16, C20 and C32/36) show no acute toxicity to fish up to the limit of water solubility. The effects observed for the C12 Guerbet alcohol can be a consequence of a higher water solubility of the substance with the shortest C-chain length of this category. Thus no aquatic toxicity is considered for the Guerbet alcohols with chain lengths >= C16 with an extremely low water solubility.
