Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Description of key information

A single 96-hour freshwater fish study in rainbow trout; an additional supporting study in guppies was also available.

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Additional information

The purpose of this study was to assess the effects of reaction product of 2-hydroxyethyl methacrylate (HEMA) and polyphosphoric acid (PPA), hereafter referred to as HEMA Phosphate, to the freshwater fish, the rainbow trout, Oncorhynchus mykiss. The data collected were used to calculate the 24-, 48-, 72-, and 96-hour LC50 values (the concentrations estimated to result in 50% mortality of the test population after 24-, 48-, 72-, and 96 hours of exposure, respectively) and a 96-hour no-observed-effect concentration (NOEC). The acute toxicity values for rainbow trout Oncorhynchus mykiss exposed to HEMA Phosphate over a 96-hour static exposure period and based on mean measured concentrations were as follows:

• 24-hour LC50 = >112 mg/L (the highest concentration tested)

• 48-hour LC50 = >112 mg/L (the highest concentration tested)

• 72-hour LC50 = >112 mg/L (the highest concentration tested)

• 96-hour LC50 = >112 mg/L (the highest concentration tested)

• 96-hour NOEC = 112 mg/L (Based on the highest concentration exhibiting no significant mortality or sublethal effects)

The study in Poecilia reticulata (guppies) produced similar effects, with a 96 -hr LC50 >100 mg/L.
