First-aid measures

General advice : Seek medical advice immediately. Ensure that the First Aid Personnel are aware of the product involved, and take precautions

to protect themselves (e.g. wear personal protection equipment). Remove affected person from danger area, lay him down. Remove soiled or soaked clothing immediately. Keep warm, calm and covered up.

If inhaled : Remove the casualty into fresh air and keep him calm.

In case of skin contact : In case of contact with skin wash off immediately with polyethylene glycol 400, then with plenty of water

In case of eye contact : Rinse the affected eye with plenty of water, at the same time keep the unaffected eye well protected.

If swallowed : When swallowed seek medical aid immediately and show  the physician the packaging or the label of the packaging.

Symptoms : Headache, Disorientation, Nausea, Cyanosis (change of colour of lips and finger nails to blue gray), Methaemoglobinaemia.

Risk of deterioration due to consumption of alcohol.

Treatment : Monitor blood circulation. Keep under medical supervision for at least 48 hours. If necessary, give oxygen.

In the event of cyanosis give vitamin C, oxygen, keep out of sun. Against Methaemoglobin anemia: Give 300 ml Toluidine blue

intravenously or 1 to 2 mg/kg Methylene blue intravenously.

Fire-fighting measures

Suitable extinguishing media : alcohol-resistant foam, dry powder, carbon dioxide, water spray jet

Unsuitable extinguishing media : Full water jet

Specific hazards during fire fighting : Fire will produce dense black smoke containing hazardous combustion products.

Special protective equipment for fire-fighters : Do not inhale explosion and/or combustion gases. Use self-contained breathing apparatus

Further information : Fire residues and contaminated firefighting water must be disposed of in accordance with the local regulations.

Accidental release measures

Personal precautions : Wear personal protective equipment. Unprotected persons must be kept away. Avoid contact with skin and eyes. Remove persons to safety.

Environmental precautions : Do not allow entry to drains, water courses or soil. Contain contaminated water/firefighting water. Prevent spread over a wide area (e.g. by containment or oil barriers).

Methods for cleaning up : Pick up with liquid binding materials and if necessary fill in containers capable of being locked. Clean contaminated floors and objects thoroughly, observing environmental regulations. When picked up, dispose of absorbed material in accordance with the regulations.

Containers in which spilt substance has been collected must be adequately labelled

Handling and storage

During its lifecycle the substance is handled under strictly controlled conditions and is rigorously contained in accordance with Art. 18.

Based on the knowledge of the basic hazards to humans and environment technical, organizational and PPE measures are taken to minimize release and exposure of this substance. National regulatory requirements for the handling of chemicals are also fulfilled. Employees are regularly trained. The efficiency of these measures is controlled e.g. by workplace measurements. In case of deviations these measures are adapted. See chapter 13 of dossier for details.

Advice on safe handling : Provide good ventilation of working area (local exhaust ventilation if necessary). Avoid formation of aerosols. Take precautionary measures against electrostatic loading. Observe the usual precautions for handling chemicals.

Advice on protection against fire and explosion : The product is combustible. Vapours may form explosive mixtures with air. Keep away from sources of ignition - refrain from smoking. Take precautionary measures against electrostatic charges - earthing necessary during loading operations. Observe the general rules of industrial fire protection

Requirements for storage areas and containers : Keep container tightly closed in a cool, well-ventilated place. Protect from direct sunlight.

Do not store or transport together with foodstuffs. Do not store together with animal feedstocks.

Exposure controls / personal protection

During its lifecycle the substance is handled under strictly controlled conditions and is rigorously contained in accordance with Art. 18.

Based on the knowledge of the basic hazards to humans and environment technical, organizational and PPE measures are taken to minimize release and exposure of this substance. National regulatory requirements for the handling of chemicals are also fulfilled. Employees are regularly trained. The efficiency of these measures is controlled e.g. by workplace measurements. In case of deviations these measures are adapted. See chapter 13 of dossier for details.

Respiratory protection : Use respiratory protection in case of insufficient exhaust ventilation or prolonged exposure. Multi-purpose filter ABEK

Hand protection : Nitrile rubber applied on knitted cotton for mechanical stress. For short-term exposure (splash protection) Nitrile rubber gloves.

For long-term exposure: Butyl rubber gloves.

Eye protection : tightly fitting safety glasses.

Skin and body protection : Impermeable protective clothing in case of leakage or risk of contamination (e.g. opening of pipes).

Hygiene measures : Do not eat, drink or smoke during work time. Remove soiled or soaked clothing immediately and clean thoroughly before using again. Garments that cannot be cleaned must be destroyed (burnt). Keep away from foodstuffs and beverages. Clean hands and face during work intervals and after work. Avoid contact of the substance.

Protective measures : Do not breathe vapours, aerosols or mists. Avoid contact with eyes and skin.

Stability and reactivity

Hazardous reactions : Exothermic reaction with strong acids.

Conditions to avoid : Exposure to air. Exposure to light.

Materials to avoid : Possible incompatibility with alkali sensitive materials, strong acids and acid chlorides

Hazardous decomposition products : In case of fire hazardous decomposition products may be produced such as gaseous hydrogen chloride (HCl),

carbon dioxide (CO2), carbon monoxide (CO), oxides of nitrogen (NOx), dense black smoke and soot.

Disposal considerations

Prior to a cleaning in a biological sewage treatment plant contaminated waste water should first be extracted with solvent and then treated with charcoal or similar adsorbent.

Waste should be incinerated in a special waste incineration plant, after consultation with operators and in compliance with local authority regulations.

Packaging that cannot be cleaned should be disposed of as product waste.
