Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Description of key information

With high probability acutely not harmful to aquatic algae.

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Additional information

The acute toxicity of 2 -morpholinoethanol (CAS 622 -40 -2) was assessed via a read-across approach since no experimental data are available for this substance. Test data for aquatic green algae were taken from studies with other N-substituted morpholine structures. All studies are reliable with restrictions since no chemical verification of the test item concentrations was performed.

The following data were used:

- 4 -Ethylmorpholine (CAS 100 -74 -3): 72 -h ErC50 = 580 mg/L (DIN 38412, Part 9; Desmodesmus subspicatus; BASF AG 1989; Study No. 01/89/0733)

- 4 -Methylmorpholine (CAS 109 -02 -4): 72 -h EC50 = 802 mg/L (Hüls, 1992, cited in KBwS, 1992; Sheet no. 763)

- 4 -Morpholinecarbaldehyde (CAS 4394 -85 -8): 72-h ErC50 = 23880 mg/L (DIN 38412, Part 9; Desmodesmus subspicatus; BASF AG 1990; Study No. 01/90/143)

Taking these values, it can be concluded that 2 -morpholinoethanol is acutely not harmful to aquatic algae with a high probability.
