Description of key information

Vryenhoef and Mckenzie (2004): The effect of the test material on the growth of Scenedesmus subspicatus was investigated and gave EL50 values of greater than 1000 mg/L loading rate WAF. Correspondingly the No Observed Effect Loading rate was 1000 mg/L loading rate WAF.

Key value for chemical safety assessment

EC10 or NOEC for freshwater algae:
1 000 mg/L

Additional information

The toxicity of the test material to aquatic algae was examined in a static freshwater test. Scenedesmus subspicatus was exposed to a Water Accommodated Fraction (WAF) of the test material, at a single nominal loading rate of 1000 mg/L (six replicate flasks) for 72 hours, under constant illumination and shaking at a temperature of 24 ± 1 °C.

The study was conducted in accordance with the OECD 201 and EU Method C.3 guidelines. The study was conducted to GLP standard, in a certified laboratory. The study is assigned a reliability score of 1 in accordance with Klimisch et. al. (1997).

The effect of the test material on the growth of Scenedesmus subspicatus gave EL50 values of greater than 1000 mg/L loading rate WAF. Correspondingly the No Observed Effect Loading rate was 1000 mg/L loading rate WAF.
