First-aid measures

Emergency measure - Inhalation: Remove from exposure and keep patient at rest. Seek medical
attention immediately.
Emergency measure - Eyes: Irrigate for at least 15 minutes and seek medical attention.
Emergency measure - Skin: Wash affected area with copious quantities of water. If
irritation develops, seek medical attention.
Emergency measure - Ingestion: Seek medical attention immediately.

Fire-fighting measures

Recommended extinguishing agent: Water spray, foam, dry powder or carbon dioxide.

Product arising from burning: Oxides of carbon and sulphur.

Product determined by test: N

Protective equipment: Fire fighters should wear full protective equipment and
breathing appartus.

Accidental release measures

Emergency measures in case of spillage: Wear full protective clothing to prevent contact with eyes
and skin, i.e. impervious suit, boots, gloves and safety
goggles.

For local spillages, sweep material carefully into a plastic
liner and contain within a tared plastic drum. Weigh and
record salvage details on a substance label fixed to the
drum. Avoid dispersing dust into the air. Flush contaminated
area with copious quantities of water.

Handling and storage

Handling: Avoid contact with eyes, skin and clothing.

Protective rubber gloves 14" (35 cm) PVC/Nitrile gauntlet,
air hood, overalls and safety glasses (BS 2092) and dust
masks should be worn. where dust generation cannot be
avoided, provide and use local exhaust ventilation (LEV).
where LEV is impractible, wear approved respiratory
protective equipment.

Storage: Store at room temperature in a cool, dry and well ventilated
area. The substance should be stored in the original
container and be correctly labelled and kept tightly closed.

Packaging of the substance and or preparation: Fibre-board drums closed with a lever closing ring. Volume
is dependent on shipment size, but generally for > 1000 kg,
kegs containing 50 kg are used.

Stability and reactivity

Danger other than fire: None reported.

Chemical reaction with water: None reported.

Dust explosion: No information is available on dust explosion risks.

Disposal considerations

Industry - Possibility of recovery/recycling: Spilled material should be recovered and disposed of by
incineration.

Since the substance is a pharmaceutical intermediate, it is
completely converted during the production process of the
final drug, and hence there is nothing to recover.

Industry - Possibility of neutralisation: It is not possible to neutralise the substance.

Industry - Possibility of destruction: controlled discharge: None.

Industry - Possibility of destruction - incineration: Incineration is the preferred method of destruction.
Suitable abatement measures for oxides of sulphur and oxides
of carbon should be in place for incineration gases.

Industry - Possibility of destruction - water purification: None.

Industry - Possibility of destruction - other: None.

Public at large - Possibility of recovery/recycling: Not applicable as the substance will not enter the public
domain.
