Reference
Endpoint:
oxidising solids
Type of information:
experimental study
Adequacy of study:
key study
Study period:
Experiment start date - 24 April 2006;
Experiment completion date - 27 April 2006;
Study completion date - 13 September 2006.
Reliability:
1 (reliable without restriction)
Rationale for reliability incl. deficiencies:
guideline study
Qualifier:
according to guideline
Guideline:
EU Method A.17 (Oxidising Properties (Solids))
Deviations:
no
GLP compliance:
yes (incl. QA statement)
Specific details on test material used for the study:
Identity: FAT 40825/A
Batch number: CHU 297 / BOP 04/05
Purity: Organic part (Na-salt): approx. 83.7 %; All coloured components: approx. 80.54 %; Main component: approx. 59.1 %.
Appearance: Solid, black powder
Storage conditions: At room temperature at about 20 °C
Expiration date: December 31, 2010
Contact with:
powdered cellulose
Sample tested:
test mixture as specified
Remarks:
Test item : Cellulose ratio of 2:1
Parameter:
preliminary test
Remarks on result:
other: e FAT 40825/A/cellulose mixture ignited poorly and the flame became orange. Without contact to the ignition source, the flame extinguished after 2 seconds. White smoke was observed and the test item mixture glowed for about 2.5 minutes.
Sample tested:
reference mixture as specified
Remarks:
Barium nitrate : cellulose ratio = 2:1
Parameter:
preliminary test
Remarks on result:
other: The barium nitrate/cellulose mixture during the same test burned for 80 seconds with a blazing, light yellowish flame, emitting sparks.

During the preliminary test the FAT 40825/A/cellulose mixture ignited poorly and the flame became orange. Without contact to the ignition source, the flame extinguished after 2 seconds. White smoke was observed, and the test item mixture glowed for about 2.5 minutes. The barium nitrate/cellulose mixture during the same test burned for 80 seconds with a blazing, light yellowish flame, emitting sparks. Since the test item mixture burned clearly slower than the barium nitrate mixture, a main test was not necessary.

Interpretation of results:
GHS criteria not met
Conclusions:
FAT 40825/A has no oxidizing properties.
Executive summary:

The determination of the oxidizing properties of FAT 40825/A was performed in accordance with the EEC Directive 92/69, Methods for the determination of physico-chemical properties, A. 17 "Oxidizing Properties (solids)", EEC Publication No. L383, December 1992. During the preliminary test the FAT 40825/A/cellulose mixture ignited poorly and the flame became orange. Without contact to the ignition source, the flame extinguished after 2 seconds. White smoke was observed and the test item mixture glowed for about 2.5 minutes. The barium nitrate/cellulose mixture during the same test burned for 80 seconds with a blazing, light yellowish flame, emitting sparks. Justification for classification or non-classification

In a test according to EU method A.17 the substance showed to be not an oxidiser. Consequently, the substance is not classifiable for oxidising properties according to CLP (Regulation EC No 1272/2008)
