The test substance is not supposed to be directly applied to soil and an indirect exposure to soil via sewage sludge transfer is unlikely since the substance is readily biodegradable. For a substance being considered as „readily biodegradable“, it can be assumed that it will be biodegraded within the STP process and as a consequence a transfer to the soil compartment is not expected. However, an acute toxicity test to the earthworm Eisenia fetida in artificial soil has been conducted to investigate the effects of the test substance to terrestrial organisms. After 14 days no mortality at the tested limit concentration of 1000 mg test item/kg artificial soil dry weight. The biomass of individual adults after 14 days amounted to 89.5% of the initial weight in the solvent control, 87.9% in the control and 88.8% at 1000 mg test item/kg artificial soil dry weight. Therefore, the NOEC was regarded to be ≥ 1000 mg test item/kg soil (dw). In conclusion, toxic effects of the test substance to terrestrial athropods are not expected and a study on terrestrial arthropods is not provided.
