1-ETHYL-3-METHYL IMIDAZOLIUM ETHYLSULFATE is hydrolytically stable (halflife time at 25°C> 1 year) in aqueous solutions buffered at pH 4, pH 7 and pH 9 based on analysis of the 1- ETHYL-3-METHYL IMIDAZOLIUM part of the test substance.

1-ETHYL-3-METHYL IMIDAZOLIUM ETHYLSULFATE is not readily biodegradable under the conditions of the modified Sturm test presently performed and showed only a low potential for inherent biodegradation in a study comparable to OECD 302C with biodegradation rates of 11.3 - 13.2 % after 28 days.

1-Ethyl-3 Methyllmidazolium Ethylsulfate can be considered slightly mobile in Speyer 2.1 and Speyer 2.2 soil, and immobile in Speyer 6S soil, according to the classification scheme by Mensink. Mean Korm ads values were 40 cm3/g (Speyer 2.1 soil), 30 cm3/g (Speyer 2.2 soil) and 662 cm3/g (Speyer 6S soil).
