PBT assessment: overall result

Reference
Name:
Aminoiminomethanesulphinic acid
Type of composition:
legal entity composition of the substance
State / form:
solid: bulk
Reference substance:
Aminoiminomethanesulphinic acid
PBT status:
the substance is not PBT / vPvB
Justification:

The PBT Assessment for aminoiminomethanesulphinic acid (CAS No. 1758-73-2)is based on the criteria set out in the “Guidance on information requirements and chemical safety assessment, Chapter R.11: PBT Assessment” (ECHA, 2012).

Persistence

Aminoiminomethanesulphinic acid is readily biodegradable in one study according to OECD 301C (80.6% (BOD) after 28 d). Thus, the test substance does not meet the screening criterion for persistency and it is not considered to be P or vP.

Bioaccumulation

Aminoiminomethanesulphinic acid has a log Kow of -3.83 (KOWWIN v1.68) indicating a low potential for bioaccumulation. Thus, the test substance does not meet the screening criterion for bioaccumulation and it is not considered to be B or vB.

Toxicity

The substance is classified as H373 ("May cause damage to organs through prolonged or repeated exposure"). Thus, the substance meets the criteria set out in Annex XIII of Regulation (EC) No 1907/2006 and fulfills the toxicity criterion.

Conclusion

In conclusion the substance is not considered to meet the criteria to be classified as PBT or vPvB based on the available data.
