First-aid measures

Emergency measure - Inhalation: Remove affected person from the immediate area. Ensure

supply of fresh air. In case of indisposition seek medical

advice.

Emergency measure - Eyes: Separate eyelids and rinse for 15 minutes with plenty of

water. If irritation occurs, seek medical advice.

Emergency measure - Skin: Remove contaminated clothes. Wash off immediately with soap

and water. If irritation occurs, seek medical advice.

Emergency measure - Ingestion: If person is conscious: Rinse mouth thoroughly with water.

Fire-fighting measures

Recommended extinguishing agent: Water, dry powder, foam, carbon dioxide.

Protective equipment: Wear self-contained breathing apparatus and protective

clothing.

Accidental release measures

Emergency measures in case of spillage: Sweep up (wet powders with water) and place

in suitable containers for disposal.

Dispose of absorbed material in accordance with the

regulations.

Handling and storage

Handling: Observe the usual precautions for handling chemicals. If

the pure substance is handled as powder, avoid inhalation

of dust and wear dust mask. Use equipment for handling

powders or other appropriate engineering controls. Avoid

eye and skin contact and wear safety goggles and impermeable

gloves.

Take precautionary measures against static charges.

Storage: The substance should be stored in well sealed and secure

containers in adequate rooms at room temperature.

Avoid residues outside the containers.

Packaging of the substance and or preparation: The commercial preparation is supplied in 25 kg containers.

Stability and reactivity

Danger other than fire: Under alcalic conditions (pH>7), the dye may decompose when

heated > 50°C to its carboxylic acid derivate and to beta-

Hydroxy-acetophenone.

According to non-GLP test reports of the notifier, following

properties have been evaluated with the presscake:

1. Thermal decomposition at 130 °C

(Method: Isoperibolic decomposition test)

2. Spontaneous decomposition

(Method: Dynamic decomposition test)

3. Risk of dust explosions

Chemical reaction with water: No dangerous reaction with water.

Dust explosion: Not to be expected if handled under good industrial

hygiene practices. The dyestuff preparation will be marketed

as dust-free granules.

Disposal considerations

Industry - Possibility of recovery/recycling: Normal application results in a high fixation rate (99 %) of

the dyestuff by irreversible binding to the fibres.

Therefore, recovery/recycling of the substance is not

possible.

Industry - Possibility of destruction: controlled discharge: Not suitable for deposit in landfill site.

Removal by controlled discharge to a waste water treatment

plant.

It is estimated that approx. 1% of the total quantity

used is discharged into internal industrial effluents as

highly diluted solution. A purification of the waste

water in a waste water treatment plant is recommended.

The dyestuff should be used in a well equiped dye house.

If necessary, the waster water can be purified prior to

the waste water treatment by membrane filtration or by

floculation with appropriate agents or by treatment with

ozone. The most effective method is the membrane fil-

tration: more than 99% of the remaining dyestuff can be

removed from the waste water.
