Principles of method if other than guideline:
The particle size of Beta ketosulfide was determined by laser diffraction in combination with MIE theory. The laser diffraction instrument was a Malvern Instruments Mastersizer 2000 with a Hydro 2000S dispersion cell. The test substance was dispersed into deionised water containing five drops of lgelpal CA 630 as a surfactant. The partical size distribution was evaluated over the range 0.02um to 2mm.

Applicant's summary and conclusion

Conclusions:
The particle size of Beta Ketosulfide was determined by laser diffraction in combination with Mie theory1The mass proportions below 10, 52.5 and 104. 7 µm were evaluated to be 8.95%, 55.77% and 62.89%, respectively. The d(0.5), theparticle size representing the mid-point in the mass distribution, was 40.3369 µm with a geometr ic standard deviation (GSD) of 2.28 µm. The mass median aerodynamic diameter (MMAD) was calculated, from the d(0.5) and the density of the test substance dctennined in this study, to be 46.74 µm.
Executive summary:

The particle size of Beta Ketosulfide was determined by laser diffraction in combination with Mie theory (European Commission Guidance Document on the Determination of particle size distribution, fibre length and diameter distribution of chemical substances EUR 20268 EN (2002) Draft.

The density of the test study determined in this study was 46.74um.
