Test used Differential Scanning Calorimetry in a Mettler-Toledo TA8000 apparatus. TFEE-5 was heated up from ambient to the final temperature (500 °C) at a constant heating rate (3 K/min) under nitrogen. Closed stainless steel crucibles were used as containers for the test item and as empty reference crucible. The measurement showed an exothermic effect in the temperature range of 360 - 450 °C with an energy release of 74 J/g (See Figure). No further thermal effects have been observed up to the maximum temperature of 500 °C. Because the decomposition energy was less than 500 J/g, the test on explosive properties was not necessary per Recommendations on the Transport of Dangerous Goods I Manual of tests and Criteria (ST/SG/AC.10/11/Rev.3)
Applicant's summary and conclusion
- Interpretation of results:
- non explosive
- Remarks:
- Migrated information
- Conclusions:
- TFEE-5 is not explosive
- Executive summary:
Explosiveness of TFEE-5 was addressed using Differential Scanning Calorimetry. TFEE-5 was heated from ambient temperature to 500 °C at a constant rate of 3K/min under nitrogen. An energy release of 74 J/g was noted between 360-450 °C. No other thermal effects were seen. Because the decomposition energy was less than 500 J/g, the test on explosive properties was not necessary per Recommendations on the Transport of Dangerous Goods I Manual of tests and Criteria (ST/SG/AC.10/11/Rev.3). TFEE-5 is not explosive.
This test was performed according to internationally-accepted guidelines and under GLP criteria. It is reliable without restrictions.
