Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Description of key information

The density of aluminium sulphate was 2710 kg/m3 (anhydrous) measured at room temperature. The relative density was 2.71.

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Relative density at 20C:
2.71

Additional information

True specific gravity, can be expressed mathematically as:

SGtrue = p sample/ p H2O

where p sample is the density of the sample and p H2O is the density of water.

Specific gravity, as it is the ratio of densities, is a dimensionless quantity.

Specific gravity varies with temperature; reference and sample must be compared at the same temperature, or corrected to a standard reference temperature. Substances with a specific gravity of 1 are neutrally buoyant in water, those with SG greater than one are denser than water.
