Description of key information

The photochemical half-life of degradation of 2,3-bis((2-mercaptoethyl)thio)-1-propanethiol in air was estimated to be 0.03 days. There is no
potential for volatilisation and long range transport in the atmosphere.

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Additional information

Following the Atkinson approach, the photochemical half-life of 2,3-bis((2-mercaptoethyl)thio)-1-propanethiol in air was estimated by calculation with the software Atmospheric Oxidation Program (AOPWIN, version 1.92). For a given concentration of hydroxyl radicals (1.5*106OH radicals/cm3) and an overall rate constant of 1.7755*10-10 for the various photolytic transformation processes induced by OH radicals the photolytic half life of the substance in the atmosphere is estimated to 0.03 days. In view of its low vapour pressure and by taking into account the rapid estimated elimination observed in this simulation, there is no potential for volatilisation and long range transport in the atmosphere.
