According to REACH Annex IX and X, column 2, testing of toxicity to soil organisms depends on the outcome of the chemical safety assessment. As no data on soil organisms are available, a screening assessment was performed. For this purpose the reaction mass was assigned a soil hazard category: 1) EC/LC50-values for daphnia, algae and fish for reaction mass of 2,2'-oxybisbutane (DSBE), DIPE, SBA and 2-methylpropan-2-ol (TBA) are > 1mg/L; 2) The reaction mass is not readily biodegradable, but not highly persistent as volatilization and leaching will lead to removal of the components from the soil compartment. Therefore, it is classified in soil hazard category 1 ((ECHA TGD IR & CSA, 2008, R7c, p.131). The PNEC for soil organisms was estimated using the equilibrium partitioning method (ECHA TGD IR & CSA, 2008, R10, p.39). The result of this assessment indicated no risk to soil (RCR < 1). Therefore, no further tests on soil organisms are required.
