Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Additional information

The ready biodegradation of reaction mass of 2,2'-oxybisbutane (DSBE), DIPE, SBA and 2-methylpropan-2-ol (TBA) was tested according to ISO 14593:2005 under GLP. No significant degradation (14%) of the test item was observed after 28 days. Reaction mass of 2,2'-oxybisbutane (DSBE), DIPE, SBA and 2-methylpropan-2-ol (TBA) is not readily biodegradable.

This finding is corroborated by the degradabilities of the main constituents of reaction mass of 2,2'-oxybisbutane (DSBE), DIPE, SBA and 2 -methylpropan-2 -ol (TBA): While SBA, which, however, makes up only approximately 2.7% of the reaction mass, was found to be readily biodegradable (3), the components DSBE (1), DIPE (2), and TBA (4) were not readily biodegradable. However, TBA may be inherently biodegradable.
