Description of key information

The explosive properties of reaction mass of 2,2'-oxybisbutane (DSBE), DIPE, SBA and 2-methylpropan-2-ol (TBA) were determined following EU A.14.
In the test for thermal sensitivity, no explosion was observed.
In the test for mechanical sensitivity (shock), no explosion was observed when using a force of 40 J.
The test for mechanical sensitivity (friction) was not performed due to the liquid nature of the test item.
The test item reaction mass of 2,2'-oxybisbutane (DSBE), DIPE, SBA and 2-methylpropan-2-ol (TBA) can be considered as:
“not explosive under the conditions of guideline EU A.14”.

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Explosiveness:
non explosive

Additional information

The tests performed under GLP and according to the Guidance EU A.14 were negative, indicating that reaction mass of 2,2'-oxybisbutane (DSBE), DIPE, SBA and 2-methylpropan-2-ol (TBA) is not explosive.

Justification for classification or non-classification

The tests performed under GLP and according to the Guidance EU A.14 were negative, indicating that the test item is not explosive.

However, reaction mass of 2,2'-oxybisbutane (DSBE), DIPE, SBA and 2-methylpropan-2-ol (TBA) is containing ca. 30% diisopropyl ether (CAS 108-20-3) which may form explosive peroxides. According to the work experience with reaction mass of 2,2'-oxybisbutane (DSBE), DIPE, SBA and 2-methylpropan-2-ol (TBA) and the official classification of DIPE, this substance should be classified with EUH019.
