Additional information

Reaction mass of 2,2'-oxybisbutane (DSBE), DIPE, SBA and 2-methylpropan-2-ol (TBA) is a yellow liquid with a low viscosity of 0.587 mPa * s at 20 °C and a relative density of 0.75. The substance melts < -80 °C and boils at 70 - 122 °C. The vapour pressure is 7263 Pa at 20 °C and 9273 Pa at 25 °C. The solubility in water is dependent on loading rate and was in the range 2.4 - 4.8 g/L for the nominal concentration of the test item (Sample 2010) in water 6.31 – 14.73 g/L at 20°C.

The Log Kow was found to be in the range 0.59 - 3.79; The substance is not surface active.

The flash point is -4.5 °C and the autoflammability temperature is 425°C at standard pressure. Reaction mass of 2,2'-oxybisbutane (DSBE), DIPE, SBA and 2-methylpropan-2-ol (TBA) is highly flammable, but not explosive.

Based on the properties of the reaction mass and the chemical structure of the different components the reaction mass does not possess oxidising properties and does not dissociate in water. Similarly to DIPE and other ethers, reaction mass of 2,2'-oxybisbutane (DSBE), DIPE, SBA and 2-methylpropan-2-ol (TBA) may produce explosive peroxides.
