Please be aware that this old REACH registration data factsheet is no longer maintained; it remains frozen as of 19th May 2023.

The new ECHA CHEM database has been released by ECHA, and it now contains all REACH registration data. There are more details on the transition of ECHA's published data to ECHA CHEM here.

Executive summary:

In the study the infrared absorption cross-sections and integrated band intensities (IBIs) for 21 haloalkanes, including HCFC 122a, were measured over thewavenumber range 400–1600 cm1 atT=295 K. The effect of air pressure on measured spectra was also investigated. These results were used to demonstrate a simple calculational approach for estimating the direct global warming potentials (GWPs) of such chemicals.

Direct GWPs were determined using these measured spectra and a simple numerical procedure based on the measured spectrum of the Earth’s outgoing radiation. The results obtained with this procedure agree with those from elaborate modeling calculations.

The following values for HCFC 122a are reported:

Atmospheric lifetime = 3.4 years

Relative radiative forcing (RRFi CFC-11) = 0.91

HGWP = 0.051

HGWP at 20 years = 0.15

HGWP at 100 years = 0.059

HGWP at 500 years = 0.051

GWP at 20 years = 770

GWP at 100 years = 240

GWP at 500 years = 71
