Description of key information

The substance is non explosive. There are no structural alerts for explosiveness. As the substances does not contain any chemical group associated with explosive properties, no experimental study has to be conducted.

Key value for chemical safety assessment

Explosiveness:
non explosive

Additional information

According to Annex VII "Standard Information Requirements for Substances Manufactured or Imported in Quantities of one Tonne or More" of the "Regulation (EC) No 1907/2006 of the European Parliament and of the Council of 18 December 2006 concerning the Registration, Evaluation, Authorisation and Restriction of Chemicals (REACH), establishing a European Chemicals Agency, amending Directive 1999/45/EC and repealing Council Regulation (EEC) No 793/93 and Commission Regulation (EC) No 1488/94 as well as Council Directive 76/769/EEC and Commission Directives 91/155/EEC, 93/67/EEC, 93/105/EC and 2000/21/EC” (as amended) (OJ L 396, 30.12.2006, p.1) 7.11, the "study does not need to be conducted if:

— there are no chemical groups associated with explosive properties present in the molecule, or

— the substance contains chemical groups associated with explosive properties which include oxygen and the calculated oxygen balance is less than -200, or

— the organic substance or a homogenous mixture of organic substances contains chemical groups associated with explosive properties, but the exothermic decomposition energy is less than 500 J/g and the onset of exothermic decomposition is below 500 °C, or

— for mixtures of inorganic oxidising substances (UN Division 5.1) with organic materials, the concentration of the inorganic oxidising substance is:

— less than 15 %, by mass, if assigned to UN Packaging Group I (high hazard) or II (medium hazard),

— less than 30 %, by mass, if assigned to UN Packaging Group III (low hazard).

Note: Neither a test for propagation of detonation nor a test for sensitivity to detonative shock is required if the exothermic decomposition energy of organic materials is less than 800 J/g."

From the structure of the substance, from the absence of relevant impurities, and from the reported production process, it is concluded that the substance is non explosive.

Justification for classification or non-classification

There are no structural alerts for explosiveness. As the substances does not contain any chemical group associated with explosive properties, no experimental study has to be conducted.
