- Method of mixing into soil (if used): The test item was weighed out and thoroughly mixed with quartz sand, which was mixed into the artificial soil. Demineralised water was added to adjust the humidity of artificial soil to a moisture of 54 % of the maximum water holding capacity.

NOEC values of biomass A t-test was carried out for the determination of statistically
significant differences compared to the control. A Normality Test and an Equal Variance Test were conducted prior to the
t-test. P-values for both Normality and Equal Variance Test are 0.05. The alpha-value (acceptable probability of incorrectly concluding that there is no difference) is alpha=0.05.

NOEC values of symptoms and mortality: No statistics had to be performed since no mortality and no symptoms were observed.

Results with the reference item: The acute toxicity of 2-Chloroacetamide on the earthwormEisenia fetida fetida(SAvIGNY) wasdetermined over aperiod of two weeks from 2009-02-12 to 2009-02-26. The LC50-value ranged between 20 and 80 mg/kg soil dry weight as recommended by the guideline.

Applicant's summary and conclusion

Conclusions:
No mortality as well as no pathological symptoms or changes in the earthworm behaviour were observed at the limit test item concentration of 1000 mg/kg soil dry weight after 14 days of exposure to Licowax OP. Compared to the control the biomass of earthworms exposed to Licowax OP at the limit test item concentration of 1000 mg/kg soil dry weight was not statistically significantly reduced at test end.
Consequently, the No Observed Effect Concentration (NOEC) of Licowax OP with respect to mortality, loss of body weight and other symptoms was determined to be at 1000 mg/kg soil dry weight.
Executive summary:

The acute effects of Licowax OP on the earthworm Eisenia fetida were determined according to the OECD Guideline 207 and DIN ISO 11268-1 at Dr.U.Noack-Laboratorien in 31157 Sarstedt, Germany from July 27th to August 11th, 2009. The study was conducted with a limit test item concentration of 1000 mg/kg soil dry weight throughout 14 days. Artificial soil without test item was used as control. 40 test organisms with an individual weight between 0.3 - 0.6 g, divided into four replicates, were tested at the limit test item concentration and control in artificial soil containing 10 % peat.

No mortality as well as no pathological symptoms or changes in the earthworm behaviour were observed at the limit test item concentration of 1000 mg/kg soil dry weight after 14 days of exposure (Table 1). Compared to the control, the biomass of the earthworms at the limit test item concentration of 1000 mg/kg soil dry weight was not statistically significantly reduced at test end.

Consequently, the no observed effect concentration (NOEC) with respect to mortality, loss of biomass and other symptoms was determined to be

at 1000 mg/kg soil dry weight.

All validity criteria of the test guideline were fulfilled.
