Applicant's summary and conclusion

Conclusions:
Interpretation of results (migrated information): insoluble (< 0.1 mg/L)
The water solubility of PAC-Ethenenitrile is below the limit of quantification of 0.02 mg/L at 20 °C and a pH ranging from 4.4 to 6.0.
Executive summary:

The water solubility of PAC-Ethenenitrile (CAS no. 1219086-87-9) was determined according to TG OECD 105. Several test vessels containing ultra-pure water mixed with test item in great excess (initial amount of test item about 1 g per liter water), were incubated and stirred for different periods of time at 30 °C (saturation phase), and then transferred to 20 °C for 24 h (equilibration phase). A sample from each test vessel was subsequently filtered with glass fiber filter and the concentration of test item in the clear aqueous phase was determined with HPLC.

The measured concentrations were as follows:

<0.02 mg/l after 1 day at 30°C, followed by 24 h at 20°C, pH 6.0

<0.02 mg/l after 2 days at 30°C, followed by 24 h at 20°C, pH 5.1

<0.02 mg/l after 3 days at 30°C, followed by 24 h at 20°C, pH 4.4

<0.02 mg/l after 7 days at 30°C, followed by 24 h at 20°C, pH 4.6

Since the pH was still decreasing after 1, 2 and 3 days, the test was prolonged by using longer equilibration times, and the concentration was also determined after 7 days. The water solubility of PAC-Ethenenitrile is below the limit of quantification of 0.02 mg/L at 20 °C and a pH ranging from 4.4 to 6.0. The validity criterion as specified in TG OECD 105 could be evaluated, as the water solubility of the test item is below the limit of quantification of the applied HPLC method.
