Conclusion on classification

Data were available for three trophic levels: freshwater fisch, invertebrates and algae. Of these, fisch was the most sensitive species.

The key value for the classification is obtained from the acute toxicity study on common carp (Cyprinus carpio).

The acute toxicity of the test item Cyhalothrin to common carp (Cyprinus carpio) was determined under GLP in a 96-hour semi-static test with daily water renewal according to the EU Commission Directive 92/69/EEC, Part C.1 (1992), and the OECD Guideline for Testing of Chemicals No. 203, (1992).

The 96 h LC50 to comon carp was found to be 0.081 µg/L.

Based upon the classification criteria according to the Regulation (EC) No 1272/2008 of the European Parliament and of the Council of 16 December 2008, the test item is to be classified as toxic to fish and the “Acute Category 1” applies (Annex I: Table 4.1.0) together with the M-factor 10,000 (Annex I: Table 4.1.3). According to the Directive 2001/59/EC, Annex VI, 5.2. the substance is classified as R50 very toxic to aquatic organisms.
