Short-term toxicity to fish

Reaction Product of Bisphenol A diglycidylether (BADGE) with a mixture of IPDA and MXDA was not tested for short-term ecotoxicological properties. Instead, a read across approach was applied for short-term toxicity to fish using data of symmetrical epoxy amine adducts Reaction Product of Bisphenol A diglycidylether (BADGE) with IPDA and Reaction Product of Bisphenol A diglycidylether (BADGE) with MXDA, as these substances were considered to show similar ecotoxicological properties. Both symmetrical epoxy amine adducts were tested for short-term toxicity to fish according to EU method C.1. Determined worst-case toxicity values for the asymmetrical epoxy amine adduct were a 96 h LC50 of 1.62 mg/L and a 96 h NOEC of 0.96 mg/L.

Short term toxicity to aquatic invertebrates

Instead, a read across approach was applied for short-term toxicity to aquatic invertebrates using data of symmetrical epoxy amine adducts Reaction Product of Bisphenol A diglycidylether (BADGE) with IPDA and Reaction Product of Bisphenol A diglycidylether (BADGE) with MXDA, as these substances were considered to show similar ecotoxicological properties. Both symmetrical epoxy amine adducts were tested for short-term toxicity to invertebrates according to EU method C.2. Determined worst-case toxicity values for the asymmetrical epoxy amine adduct Reaction Product of Bisphenol A diglycidylether (BADGE) with IPDA and MXDA were a 48 h EC50 of 1.75 mg/L and 48 h NOEC of 0.705 mg/L.

Toxicity to aquatic algae and cyanobacteria

A read across approach was applied for short-term toxicity to algae using data of symmetrical epoxy amine adducts reaction Product of Bisphenol A diglycidylether(BADGE) with IPDA and reaction Product of Bisphenol A diglycidylether (BADGE) with MXDA, as these substances were considered to show similar ecotoxicological properties as compared to the unsymmetrical adduct BADGE with IPDA and MXDA. The ErC50 (based on growth rate) was determined to be 2.11 mg/L in the read across study with Bisphonal A diglycidylether (BADGE) with MXDA (CAS 113930-69-1) and 3.13 mg/L in the read across study with IPDA (CAS 38294-64-3). The ErC10 was determined to be 1.55 mg/L (MXDA) and 1.99 mg/L (IPDA).

Toxicity to microorganisms

Reaction Product of Bisphenol A diglycidylether (BADGE) with IPDA and MXDA was not tested for short-term ecotoxicological properties. Instead, a read across approach was applied for short-term toxicity to microorganisms test with the symmetrical epoxy amine adducts Reaction Product of Bisphenol A diglycidylether (BADGE) with IPDA and Reaction Product of Bisphenol A diglycidylether (BADGE) with MXDA, as these substances were considered to show similar ecotoxicological properties. Both substances were tested for toxicity to microorganisms according to EU method C. 11. Applying toxicity values from the most toxic symmetrical adduct, the EC50 (3 h) value for the asymmetrical adduct Reaction Product of Bisphenol A diglycidylether (BADGE) with IPDA and MXDA was 72.63 mg/L and the NOEC was 31 mg/L.
