Short-term toxicity to aquatic invertebrates:

In an OECD 202 study (Daphnia sp. Acute Immobilisation Test), conducted according to GLP, reaction mass of bis(C11-14-alkyl, branched and linear)amine nonadecaoxo hexatungstate (the surrogate substance) did not induce acute immobilisation of Daphnia magna exposed to a Water Accommodated Fraction (WAF) prepared at a loading rate of 4.6 mg/l after 48 hours of exposure. Analyses showed that this corresponded to an average exposure concentration of 4.0 micro g/l (NOEC). The 48h-EC50 is between concentrations present in WAFs prepared at loading rates of 4.6 and 10 mg/l. The 48h-EC50 based on average exposure concentrations is 19 micro g/l (95% confidence interval between 14 and 30 micro g/l) (NOTOX, 2012).

Toxicity to aquatic algae and cytobacteria:

In an OECD 201 study ("Freshwater Alga and Cyanobacteria, Growth Inhibition Test"), conducted according to GLP, reaction mass of bis(C11-14-alkyl, branched and linear)amine nonadecaoxo hexatungstate (the surrogate substance) has an EC50 for growth rate reduction (ERC50: 0 -72 h) of 0.88 micro g/l and an EC50 for yield inhibition (EYC50: 0-72h) of 0.36 micro g/l (with a 95% confidence interval ranging from 0.17 to 0.76 micro g/l)

The NOEC based on TWA concentrations for both growth rate reduction and yield inhibition is 0.15 micro g/l. The test substance is highly insoluble and the NOEC was derived from a nominal test concentration WAF of 1.8 mg/l.

Test results were based on two main studies and a worst-case approach was followed to determine the EC and NOEC values, i.e. lowest effect concentrations were used for final toxicity parameters.
